Small but Mighty: The Power of Pollinators at MK Nature Center

In June 2019, thousands of tiny residents moved into the MK Nature Center—a queen bee and her industrious colony. Housed in a specially designed observation hive, these honeybees have been busy captivating visitors and showcasing the hidden world of pollinators.

This living exhibit gives guests an up-close look at the inner workings of a hive: the queen laying eggs, workers tending the brood, and the fascinating dance of communication. It’s more than just a display—it’s a window into the vital role bees and other pollinators play in keeping our ecosystems thriving.

Bees, butterflies, and other pollinating insects are responsible for helping over 75% of flowering plants reproduce—including many of the foods we eat. By connecting visitors to these important creatures, we hope to spark a deeper appreciation for the natural world and the web of life that supports us all.

This project was made possible through the generous support of our community, reflecting a shared commitment to environmental education and conservation.
